Demonstrations

InfoShopGalleryContactNews

We would like to extend an invitation to your service club, woodwork club or tour group to visit our newly renovated and expanded workshop, showroom and gallery for a woodturning demonstration. We welcome large or small groups.

Demonstrations include -
1. Turning a rough block of timber down to a finely finished  object. Demonstrating sharp tools and the finishing process.
2. Turning a timber pen, from a block of timber to finished item.
3. Watch the very interesting process of a Cabriole leg  being turned. Cabriole legs are used on traditional furniture. The process involves off-set turning, a visually interesting display.
4. Rob now includes an entertaining introduction into the making and playing of didgeridoos. Having developed a passion for this unusual and mysterious Aboriginal instrument, Rob is able to demonstrate a varied range of vocalisations. To play this ancient Aboriginal instrument, one needs to be able to achieve circular breathing! A breathing technique where one needs to simultaneously breath in through the nose while breathing out through the mouth, thus blowing into the didgeridoo. Mastering this technique will allow the player to create a continuous sound from the instrument as long as one wishes.

Woodturning Demonstration

We encourage participation in all our demonstrations, from asking questions and smelling the timber, to feeling the finished items. After the demo we have a showroom of tools and machinery for you to browse. A gallery of unique and unusual wooden curiosities, such as our hand crafted timber clocks, made entirely of timber. There is also a collection of intricate scroll clocks, including cathedral clocks.

Also on display is a range of hand carvings, unusual intarsia and pyrographies, as well as many hand crafted wooden gifts such as pens, clocks, pot pourri bowls, etc.

$2.50 Fee

Unfortunately, due to astronomical increases in insurance costs and Occupational Health and Safety requirements, we are faced with a dilemma of having to charge a fee for our demo's. We personally, strongly object to all the new over-regulated standards being placed on industry, and the costs incurred. We wish we could continue our free Demo's, as we have in the past, but we will now be charging $2.50 per person to cover costs.
